Let’s take a pair of Converse All Star sneakers and see what they communicate. The first thing that catches the eye is the star and then that name… All Star.
The simplest star to draw is the pentagram and has five points. The number 5 has always been regarded as mystical and magical, yet essentially ‘human’. We have five fingers/toes on each limb extremity and we commonly note five senses. We can also map the human body on the pentagram. This is what the Vitrivian Man is all about.; Man in microcosm, symbolising our place in the Macrocosm or universe and the Hermetic philosophy As Above, So Below.
So what is Converse telling us here? That you are a star if you wear a pair of their sneakers. But no matter what religion you subscribe to or what brand of sneakers you wear, we are already All Stars. We are brothers and sisters, as the word brothers is derived from the male Egyptian sungod Ra (b-Ra-thers) , the word sisters is derived from after the feminine constellation Virgo, better known as Isis (Isis-stars). So everybody, every human is a reflection of the stars.
And let’s do the mathematics on the number 5, or should I say mathe-magics?
The geometric proportions of the the pentagram are those of the Golden Ratio. This ratio forms the foundation of the Fibonacci series of numbers 0,1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, etc. where each number is formed by adding the previous two numbers. The Fibonacci series is much found in nature. Consider how the pentagrams below contain the Golden Ratio, which is equal to 1 : Phi (1,618…).
The numeric system used in ancient Rome employs combinations of letters from the Latin alphabet to signify values. The number 5 is expressed like a V.
We all know the four elements Earth, Air, Fire and Water. But they are born from the quintessential, 5th element called Ether which starts with the letter E. And the E is, lo and behold, the 5th letter of the English Alphabet.
